Álvaro Lladser, PhD

Biography

Dr. Lladser studied Biochemistry at Universidad de Chile, obtaining the Master degree in 2003. He performed the Master’s thesis at the Laboratory of Gene Pharmacotherapy with Dr. Yedy Israel and Dr. Amalia Sapag. Then, Dr. Lladser started the PhD Program in Biomedical Sciences at Universidad de Chile sponsored by a Conicyt fellowship, obtaining the PhD degree in 2007. The PhD thesis was done at Dr. Andrew Quest lab working on cancer vaccines. Then, he moved to Stockholm, Sweden in 2007 to start his Postdoctoral training at the Cancer Center Karolinska (CCK) (Karolinska Institutet) sponsored by the fellowship Beca Presidente de la República. Dr. Lladser worked on T cell-based cancer vaccines with Dr. Rolf Kiessling in the Gene and Immune Therapy Unit. In 2010, Dr. Lladser moved back to Chile to continue his career as independent scientist at the Fundación Ciencia & Vida as Associate Researcher and Principal Investigator of the Laboratory of Immunoncology. Since then, Dr. Lladser has developed his research focused on unveiling the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying effective and long-lasting T cell-mediated antitumor immunity. Current projects aim to decipher the cross-talk between CD8+ T cells and dendritic cells in the tumor microenvironment and to dissect the role of tissue-resident memory T (Trm) cells in human solid cancers.
