Distinguished German plant pathologist, Dr. Matthias Hahn, visits Fundación Ciencia para la Vida
November 20, 2008
Dr. Matthias Hahn, from Kaiserslautern University (Germany) visited Fundación last week. His work is centered on studying new molecular strategies to modulate the infection of Botrytis cinerea in grapevine fields. Dr. Hahn is known for his work on the mechanisms of multiple fungicide resistance in vineyard populations of B. cinerea found in Europe. He has recently shown that the resistant fungi up-regulated the expression of ABC- and MFS-type efflux transporters.
As part of his visit, Dr. Hahn gave a seminar title “Molecular approaches to study infection mechanism and multiple fungicide resistance in B. cinerea”. During the last 2 years Dr. Hahn has been collaborating with Evelyn Silva and Pablo Valenzuela from the Fundación in the identification and expression analysis of B. cinerea genes involved in early stages of infection, especially germination, using “knock out” mutants and microarray technology.
