On April 4, 2018, Dr. Tomás Pérez-Acle, Head of our Laboratory of Computational Biology, participated in Radio Pauta’s“Un día perfecto” (“A perfect day”) program. On this occasion, the researcher addressed the mathematical prediction of human behavior and social chaos using high-performancecomputing tools.

Dr. Pérez-Acle is a biologist graduated from Universidad de Concepción with a Master in Medical Biophysics from Universidad de Chile and a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Universidad Andrés Bello. His main scientific interest focuses on multi-scale computational modeling of complex biological systems.

His multidisciplinary research group at Fundación Ciencia & Vida is composed of professionals and students from diverse fields such as engineering, mathematics, design, computer science, physics, molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry and chemistry, among others. The team generates computational models to get insights on the fundamental structure and dynamics underlying complex biological phenomena. This includes predictive models of large populations’ behavior in the face of catastrophes and panic situations.
