Fundación brings together scientists and school teachers
15/12/2008In order to strengthen links between high school teachers and researchers, last Wednesday December 3, a group of over thirty teachers visited the laboratories of Fundación. They were guided by researchers who instructed them about the projects that are being developed at Fundación Ciencia para la Vida.
The initiative is part of a series of lectures organized by the Chilean Academy of Sciences titled “The Wednesday in the Academy”. This year the lectures were focused on the topic of transgenics and their importance in today’s society. Such Laboratory visits are vital to foster the knowledge exchange between those who are doing science and those who are teaching it. The lectures were given by prominent scientists such as Dr. Pablo Valenzuela, Dr. Nibaldo Inestrosa and Dr. Romilio Espejo, among others.
Patricio Felmer, organizer of this activity and corresponding member of the Academy, stressed the responsibility of research centers to provide education in our country, “our education requires a big improvement in quality for a successful development in education and science, the support the research centers are giving in this matter is crucial”, concluded.
