The Center for Bioinformatics and Genome Biology of Fundación Ciencia para Vida organized a Bioinformatics and Genome Biology Training Workshop for Microsoft Executives17/02/2008
The Millennium Institute for Fundamental and Applied Biology (MIFAB) and Microsoft Sponsored Research supported a one-day training workshop in bioinformatics for Microsoft Chile executives. The event took place on Thursday, January 17 at the Center for Bioinformatics and Genome Biology (CBGB), Fundación Ciencia para Vida (FCV).
Six Microsoft executives attended the workshop that consisted of an initial tutorial in relevant advances in Molecular Biology followed by discussion of themes in Bioinformatics and Genome Biology with special reference to areas under investigation at the CBGB. Topics* included: AlterORF Database Management and Datamining, Applications of Information Theory, Bioinformatics and Bioleaching,
Biological Networks and Systems Biology, Escience and High Performance Grid Computing. In addition, areas of mutual interest and future development between Microsoft Chile and the FCV were identified and discussed. The workshop was run by Drs. David Holmes and Raquel Quatrini of the CBGB- Fundación Ciencia para la Vida supported by students Jorge Valdés, Felipe Veloso, Francisco Ossandón, Jorge Ugarte and Felipe Lazo and systems administrator, Gustavo Rivera.
