Fundación Ciencia para la Vida participates in activities of the Science and Technology Week of the Explora Program
11/10/2007Within the XIII Science and Technology Week, organized by the Explora Program of CONICYT, the Fundación Ciencia para la Vida received 11 th and 12 th grade students and teachers from the José Luis González Gonzaga II School from Puente Alto and the Instituto de Docencia from Las Condes.
The Science and Technology Week is an initiative organized by Explora-CONICYT with the aim of inviting children and youths to understand and experience the different scientific and technological advancements carried out in the country.
This activity, that took place at the Fundación Ciencia para la Vida , included the presence of Dr. Erwin Krauskopf, Dr.Vivian Wilhelm, Dr. Verónica Burzio and Dr. Jaime Villegas, scientists of the Foundation, who, through informal lectures explained the high-school students about the research being done there. These lectures were presented through movies and slides explaining didactically to the high school students the different research topics developed at the Institution.
Ivonne Sotomayor, Biology and Natural Sciences teacher of the José Luis González Gonzaga II School mentioned that: “What these scientists show us are real issues that can bring science closer to our students; besides, the way that they were presented was very clear and I think it will certainly motivate the students”.
In the same context, Clarita Erices, 11 th grade student, pointed out that: “they explain matters that are not taught at school and here, with these lectures, we can learn about important issues in more depth and that is something I like.”
The activity ended with a guided visit to the different laboratories where the young students were able to observe directly how the scientists of the Foundation solve research issues.
